About
Valley Living launched in June 2026 to support the people, communities, creators, businesses, and organizers of the San Fernando Valley. A curated calendar is updated every Thursday and unique features are added monthly.
VL is inspired by experiences of picking up LA Weekly at Tower Records, catching California Gold on TV, or opening a browser to 2000s-era local & lifestyle blogs from Vox and Gawker (or the quirkier ones on Blogspot and Blogger). It's a lifestyle magazine on actual life stuff - working to make it easier to buy local, meet neighbors, get involved, go to a show, hear new ideas, find help, share stories, and shape whatever's next.

All creative work in VL is by humans, for humans and has been produced without generative AI.
Origin
VL was instigated by me, Colombene Gorton. I grew up in Chatsworth and Burbank. After some years in Los Angeles, I am now in West Hills - which I still call Canoga Park, as it was known from 1931 to 1987. Before that it was called Owensmouth, and part of Mission San Fernando Rey de España before that, but originally was near the Chumash, Tataviam, and Tongva sites of Atavsangna, Momonga, and Asha'awanga.
Thanks to Ben Gorton, Delan Bruce, Tim Armitage, John Harlow, Emaline Friedman, and Lex Roman.
